Baalmann's Ace Hardware was founded in 1960 when Richard F. Baalmann Sr. who owned a 3500 sq. ft. store called Mars-Enders Hardware (founded in 1942 and purchased by Dick in 1956) joined Ace Hardware as their 362nd store. From 1960 to 1979 Dick and his partner grew the business from that one small store to six 16,000 to 20,000 sq. ft. stores around the St. Louis Area. In 1979 Dick sold his interest in the then Village Ace Hardware Chain, but retained store 491 in Des Peres.
 
   Rick joined the business in a part-time basis in 1972 and worked through high school and college. In 1982 Rick joined ACE in a full-time role working as an Assistant Manager in store 491. He proceeded to advance in the business and is now the Company President.

   Both Dick and Rick have proven track records with over 71 years of combined experience. Dick helped write the Ace Operational Standards Manual, worked closely with Ace in many of it's Retail Initiatives and co-founded the first Ace Dealer Group. Dick has been and is involved in many civic and charitable activities throughout his career. Rick has served as Chairman of the Mid America Ace Dealers Group, chairman of the Pace Computer User Advisory Committee and is currently on the Ace Hardware Corporate Board of Directors. Rick also has been involved in many civic and charitable endeavors.

   We have been successful by opening quality Ace Hardware Stores, which are fully computerized and take advantage of all leading edge programs. Our stores are deep and broad in inventory and focus on the core Hardware, Paint, Plumbing, Electrical, Tool, Garden and appropriate Niche Business. We have the buying power of over 5,000 stores and 14 billion dollars of retail sales, which allows us to stay competitive in our markets. We hire the best people in the industry with great attitudes and treat each customer and teammate as if they were our best friends.

   With this in mind we will continue to grow and expand our business so that we continue to be the Best Convenience Hardware stores in the St. Louis Area.
